Life of Significance Part 3

Whether we know it or not, most people are well acquainted with Proverbs 16:18.  We may not be able to recall the passage simply by hearing the chapter and verse but very few of us are unfamiliar with its content: Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall (NKJV).  Of course, this passage is speaking of the ills of arrogance and the ultimate devastation that ensues.  However, in an effort to ensure that we are not becoming “high-minded” we may swing the pendulum to the other extreme and fail to celebrate some of the accomplishments that uplift our sensibilities and cause us to rejoice over a job well-done.

As I reflect on this, a couple of things come to my mind.  I am proud of finishing my education through to a terminal degree.  It was a long and challenging journey, but I did it.  I am also proud to have treated a couple of senior women to a week-long cruise.  They had blessed my life in so many ways and it was an honor to show my appreciation to them and a joy to witness their enjoyment of such an unexpected gift.

So here’s the question: What are some of the things of which you are most proud?

In spite of a few challenges, it warms my heart when I see the reactions of my Clients and hear their appreciation after a hair service. Just knowing they are leaving better physically and emotionally than how they came in makes my day. I give all the Glory to God for providing the resources to make this happen.

I’m also proud of earning a Bachelors degree/Business. I’m also proud to treat a sister to a retreat. It was a gift to her for some of her accomplishments.

I am most proud that I continue to be true to myself , have compassion for others and always give others the benefit of the doubt. Some people say I am too nice , but that is just me. My goal is always to be kind to others. One thing I don’t talk about much is that I had the strength to continue after my mom passed. I used to say “how would I go on with out her” and I have. She is always in my heart and mind

I am most proud of a couple of things in my life. In 2009, I graduated Summa Cum Laude, bought my 1st house and a new car. After a hurtful divorce in 2002 I thought I would just ball up in a corner and die. I never thought that I had the strength to go one. But, God showed me other wise.

I’m also proud of myself in knowing that I’m a good hearted person. I always treat people the way I want to be treated even though they don’t always reciprocate. I know that my blessings are not from people.

There are a couple of things I am particularly proud of. Proud to have lots of my family serving the Lord, proud to be no longer a shy person when it comes to sharing my faith with others, proud to have graduated with honors, proud to have been the only one to receive a Scholastic Award out of a graduating class of 400. Last, but not least, super proud to be “The King’s Daughter.”

I am proud of my faith in God to sustain me even when it looks like everything is collapsing around me. Because of God’s love for me I know to keep serving, keep moving forward and keep using the word as my sword.

After obtaining a doctorate in the Science field, I wanted a faculty position in academia. It is very competitive and sadly many minorities (blacks in particular) go into industry instead. GOD opened a door and I am now in a tenure-track faculty at a top research and medical institution. I’m humbly proud of my accomplishments. Ok let me brag a little “I’m real good at what I do” although God is still best.
